The Benefits of Flex Time

All students need opportunities for enrichment to explore their interests, receive extra help and interventions, and SEL supports. But it can be difficult for teachers to find the time to give them what they need.

A flex period is a great way to give students time to get what they need. What is a flex period? It’s a flexible, built-in period of time during the school day. It is sometimes called a flex block, student support time, activity period, W.I.N. time, and more. To learn about flex periods and why they are so effective, watch the video Why Create a Flex Block?

During the School Day

Flex Time occurs during the school day, built right into the schedule. This makes it accessible to all students, not relying on before or after school sessions. It also lowers stigma for students who need extra help, as they will not be pulled out of core classes.

Closes Learning Gaps

Flex creates time for extra help and intervention at a regular time within the school schedule. Students can be scheduled to a teacher in a subject area they need the most support in, closing learning gaps over time.

Build Relationships

During Flex, students regularly meet with teachers. Whether this is for intervention or enrichment, it helps build bonds. Students can build better relationships with each other too, especially when this time is used for advisory.

Provides Enrichment
